Studios on the Square

…create a professional and positive setting where music lessons, classes and events are offered to the community at large by a collective of musician teachers dedicated to quality…

Rachel Doud teaches violin, viola, cello and bass lessons.  She is a 2017 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Ithaca College and holds a BS degree in Music Education with a string emphasis. Rachel has been playing violin since she was a young child and is skilled in the Suzuki method of teaching as well as traditional style.  Her many orchestral performances, including college and community string ensembles, chamber and solo work speak to a wide experience.

Rachel has taught string lessons to children in Kindergarten to high school. Her experience in Cortland and Rochester, NY included teaching small group and private lessons on all the string instruments. In her lessons, Rachel emphasizes listening skills, demonstrates careful attention to technique and encourages good practice skills so that her students move forward on their individual instruments of choice.

As a Summer Youth Employment Supervisor with the Chemung County Youth Bureau Rachel taught workplace and life skills related workshops, visiting her charges at work sites to provide evaluations and positive suggestions for improvement.  She relates well to older children and teens.

In addition to her work at our studio, Rachel teaches general music to children in grades K-2 in the Elmira City School District.  Her involvement with young children makes her especially attuned to the needs of the developing musician at any age.

Mary Kathryn notes that the positive energies of Rachel are simply joyful.  Her students leave every lesson with a smile and look forward to a week of playing at home!
